The Queens’ Ladies volleyball team won their 5th match of the season against North Down on Monday evening, the 22nd of November, 2010. This continues their 100% record in the NIVA Women’s League.
Despite a rocky start and a few confusing and disorganised moments, the Queens’ Ladies squad rallied themselves and got a lot of good energy going. With a new points-booster strategy devised by head coach Irena Mihneva, Queens’ accumulated points quickly in the first two sets, which were won 25-12 and 25-13.
On the Queens’ side, both Claire Dowey and Joanna Wiezowska made many impressive hits. The whole team was present, so substitutions were possible and the majority of the team had an opportunity to play, giving great experience for the newer players against the challenging opponent. Despite purportedly missing 4 of their best players, the North Down ladies squad played a very solid game, and the third set was especially hard at 25-16. Even though the game was an away match for North Down, they had many supporters, which was great to see!
Both teams thank Patrick Crooks and Jonathan Workman for refereeing the match, and Pauline Loisy and Garry Dunne for keeping score.
The next Queen’s Ladies’ match is at 7:30pm on Monday the 29th of November, 2010, at the PEC, against the Skea Spikers 1.
