Ulster Jordanstown defeated Aztecs Eagles 3-1 tonight to make it 2 wins and no losses for the season so far. The win almost guarantees that Ulster Jordanstown will qualify for one of the four spots for the post season Celtic Cup.
Ulster Jordanstown were never behind in the first set thanks to good serving backed up with solid blocking. #10 Niall Madden and #15 Chris Cousins kept the side-out offense going with strong outside hitting. Jordanstown were able to pull away from Aztecs late in the set and late substitutios for the Aztecs failed to alter the course of the set and Jordanstown ran out comfortable winners 25-15.
It was a different story in the second set with Jordanstown passing unit faltering and allowing Aztecs to go 1-10 up. Jordanstown #9 Alan Workman who was recovering from a strained hamstring was called off the bench to shore up the pass and Jordanstown were able to pull within two points at 15-17 but three unforced errors in four points all but gave the set to Aztecs 19-25.
The third set was a nail bitter from start to finish with neither team pulling away by more than three points in the set. Aztecs were 19-22 however when Jordanstown staged a come back and it was only fitting that Jordanstown #14 Stephan Kunz got a stuff block to win the set 26-24 and to give Jordantown a 2-1 set lead in the match.
