Raiders take first win at Fortress Dalriada

The Raiders VC started their 2017 campaign with an away game against the Ballymoney Blaze 2nds on Monday night.

The Raiders had 2 players - Ross McMorris (Middle Blocker) and Jack Bailey( Libero) making their Raider debuts.

The Raiders started of the first set trading points against the young blaze side but with strong hitting from outside hitter Peter Stewart and opposite Nick Wright were able to pull away with an early lead. Raiders maintained their early lead and captured the first set 25-13.

The Raiders looking to break in their rookie players early in the 2nd set feeding the ball through the middle to McMorris with success. Building on their 1st set success the Raiders were able to string together a streak of 6 points to establish a 15-5 lead. Further trick plays orchestrated by setter Fulton had the Blaze blocks dazzled and unable to block out the Raiders offense leading to the Raiders taking the 2nd set 25-14.

Strong serving from setter Fulton in the final set put Ballymoney on the back foot and kept them from getting back even. The home team battled hard and with strong attacks coming from Ian Walker helped to disrupt the Raiders passing unit. The Raiders took the final set with another 25-13 score line.

Next up for the Raiders is a date with the Polonia Eagles at the Tandragee Recreation centre Tuesday 17th October 8PM.
