Jordanstown Women Win Five Set Thriller Against Aztecs

The Ulster Jordanstown Women’s Volleyball team defeated Aztecs Eagles in a 5 set, 2 hour thriller to start the new season.

The Jordanstown women started the match well and were never behind in the first set until Aztecs came back from 22-18 down to win the set 23-25.

Poor sideout offense by Aztecs in the second  set allowed Jordanstown to level the match, winning the set 25-22.

Aztecs quickly built up a 3-15 lead in the fourth set and looked like winning the set easily but the Jordanstown girls dug deep and hard serving by Jordanstown’s captain #1 Natalie Stewart allowed them to win the next 13 of 14 points to level the set at 16-16. The comeback was complete and Jordanstown went on to win the set 25-23.

The fourth set was as close as the previous three sets and neither team were able more than a three point lead but Aztecs were able to finish the set stronger and won the set 22-25 to level the match again at 2-2 and force a deciding fifth set.

The time was 10pm, the match had already taken over an hour and a half and  the University of Ulster Sports Centre had now closed. The staff were looking to go home but the deciding set still had to be played.

In the fifth set Aztecs held a 6-8 lead at the change of ends but Jordanstown were able to pull the lead back to 14-14 and required either team to win by a 2 point margin. The Jordanstown girls were able to do this by winning the next two points on the back of their #4 Aimee Nixon’s serve and they won the set 16-14 and the match 3-2.
