Ulster Jordanstown go top of the 7 Financial National League with 3-0 win over North Down in Bangor.
Right from the start of the match North Down were struggling with Ulster Jordanstown’s serving and were 8-3 down at the beginning of the 1st set. However North Down soon found their game and thanks to some strong hitting through Mateusz Wiswiewski and Michal Rutkowski as well as some sneaky play from setter Allan Moore North Down came back into the set at 17-18. Then crucially Jordanstown won 3 points on the bounce to take a lead of 21-17 and North Down failed to recover. Once again North Down were left to rue the mistakes made at the beginning of the set. The set finished 25-20 to Jordanstown.
The second set began quite cagey with points being exchanged and at 11-10 neither team had established a firm hold on the game. Then Jordanstown up’ed their game and North Down soon found themselves with a 5 point deficit at 19-14. Once again they were unable to claw back the deficit and Jordanstown closed the 2nd set out winning 25-19.
In the third set North Down started much stronger than in the first two sets and were in the lead throughout the first dozen rotations. This was largely due to Matt’s serve and a much better general defensive play compared to the previous sets. North Down were leading the 3rd set 19-16 when mistakes started appearing to allow Jordanstown back in and at 22-22 Ulster Jordanstown seized the opportunity to close the game out and win the third and final set 25-23 to win the match 3-0.
