North Down host Skea Spikers

Desperate for a first win in the Women’s 1st division, North Down started well with four unanswered points but Skea came back level and it was point for point until Skea opened a four point gap at 12-8. Zoe and Lucy Moore were hitting well but Skea had experienced defenders. Down still strived to stay in touch but at 22-19 Skea looked to finish the set. However a great effort was made by North Down to snatch the 1st set 26-24.

North Down again started the 2nd set well and were ahead with good setting from Vicki Larkin and Elaine Cunningham until Skea clawed it back to 12-12. North Down always edged ahead and thought the 2nd set was theirs only for Skea to comeback and snatch it 25-23.

North Down seemed to put the 2nd set disappointment behind them with Julie McConkey and Zoe Moore hitting well, also great mid set serving by Agata Rutkowska and blocking by Cait Donnelly saw North Down take the 3rd set comfortably 25-12.

Set 4 saw Vicki Larkin serve 5 unanswered points putting North Down in the driving seat 7-2 which they protected until Marie Nann for Skea won 9 points in a row on her serve to lead 18-14 and Skea held on despite a late scare to take the 4th set 25-21.

Disappointment was evident as North Down took to the court and were quickly 6-1 behind a buoyant Skea team but North Down showed bravery in a comeback that saw them lead 9-8 and this exciting match eventually finished with Skea taking a nail biting end game 15-13.

Well done to Skea and thanks to both teams and supporters for an exciting match.
