CEV Coaches Convention Zadar 2025

Northern Ireland Coaches at the CEV Coaches Convention in Zadar, 2025

Five coaches from Northern Ireland Volleyball headed to Zadar, Croatia, at the end of September for the 6th CEV Coaches Convention, joining other coaches from across Europe for a weekend packed with volleyball, learning, and inspiration.
The event ran from 26–28 September 2025, and from the very first day it was clear it was going to be something special. The mornings were filled with theory sessions exploring new coaching concepts and development frameworks, while the afternoons moved onto the court, turning those ideas into practice.
Three speakers – Eric Hodgson, Saskia van Hintum, and Nataliia Klimenova – each brought something unique. Eric encouraged coaches to think about volleyball as more than a game, calling it a “learning competition.” Nataliia’s disciplined, focused approach contrasted nicely with Saskia’s ability to connect deeply with her players, making for a powerful mix of perspectives that kept everyone thinking.
The second day carried that energy forward with creative workshops and discussions about how to grow volleyball in all its forms – from indoor and beach to sitting and paravolley, and for all ages and abilities. It was a celebration of ideas and a reminder of how much the sport continues to evolve.
Magda Kabzinska summed up the weekend perfectly:
“The CEV Coaches Convention in Zadar was a great time with amazing people, coaches and mentors. Three experienced speakers shared their views and priorities when coaching kids, young adults, and pros. Eric’s philosophy, Natalia’s focused style, and Saskia’s great connection with players made the weekend so interesting. I’ve come back with new ideas to use in our work – and new friends too.”
For Paul McIllwaine, it was all about connection:
“The Croatia convention was a great way to meet other coaches and learn from each federation. Sharing ideas and helping to develop each other’s needs was invaluable. In volleyball we are one big European family, and by sharing and listening we help the game grow.”
Chris Hamilton echoed the same positive energy:
“The convention was a fantastic experience to learn and connect with different coaches and see how others work to get the best out of their athletes. The passion for volleyball was brilliant, and the whole weekend ran so smoothly.”
Rebecca Connor added:
“I thoroughly enjoyed attending the CEV Coaches Convention in Zadar. It was a fantastic opportunity to learn from experienced international coaches and others who share the same passion for volleyball. Having the chance to exchange ideas and bring back fresh inspiration for developing our game at home was very valuable.”
And Siobhan Heally highlighted how open and collaborative the sessions were:
“It was a great opportunity to learn from the experience and expertise of the guest speakers. They gave us plenty of practical ideas and encouraged discussion with other coaches. Hearing from so many people with different backgrounds and experiences is always incredibly valuable.”
By the end of the weekend, everyone left Zadar feeling inspired, connected, and ready to bring that energy back to Northern Ireland. The convention was more than just a coaching event – it was a reminder of how much can happen when people who love the game come together to learn, share, and grow.
