Northern Ireland’s squad of four travelled to Porthcawl, Wales, to compete at the Home Nations Championships, gaining valuable experience against some of the strongest teams across the UK and SCA.
The team competed with determination throughout the tournament, with several closely contested matches that could easily have gone either way. Two matches were decided by a golden set, highlighting just how competitive the standard was. Despite narrowly missing out, the squad showed resilience, battling back from difficult positions and producing some outstanding rallies and high-quality volleyball.
While the results placed the team fifth overall, the tournament provided invaluable lessons that will help shape future performances. The players identified the importance of tournament preparation, managing pressure in key moments, and maintaining effective communication and support between partners throughout matches. These experiences will play a significant role in the team’s continued development, both technically and mentally.
The Home Nations was an important stepping stone for this young squad. They return with greater confidence, a clearer understanding of the level required to compete internationally, and plenty of motivation to continue improving ahead of future events.
